TOP OF THE LINE PID CONTROLLER
This controller has been discontinued by Watlow. Please check
for our remaining inventory.
The Watlow Series 96 is a 1/16 DIN size digital temperature controller. Click
for detailed users' manual from the manufacturer.
This controller can be used on both 110V and 220V systems, both in the US and internationally.
It offers a 2-line display with the capability of simultaneously showing set point and current temperature.
Compared with our other 1/16 DIN controllers (the 965 and Series 93),
the 96 model offers significantly expanded features, including:
- ability to display temperature to 0.1 degrees (F or C)
- digital filtering of the input signal
- ability to program a custom menu of frequently accessed items
Some of the series 96 controllers offered by MLG also have the capability of programming two setpoints.
This feature can be used to configure the PID to control both the brew water temperature and the
steam temperature control
requires the addition of a simple mechanical relay that is connected to the
original steam switch on the Silvia. Our
steam control option
includes all parts and instructions necessary
to configure a 96 controller to control both steam and brew water temperatures.
Since our introduction of the Series 96 kits with steam control, these have proven to be
very popular kits.
We have installed and thoroughly tested the 96 controllers on several new Silvia's now.
We are happy to report that the Series 96 controller is living up to its reputation, and price!
(These are very expensive controllers when purchased new from Watlow, even with volume discounts).
But they are extremely accurate and provide outstanding, stable temperature control.
We find that the SD3 controllers and the 96 controllers perform very similarly when installed on a new machine.
We are frequently asked for our recommendation by customers trying to decide between the SD3 and the 96.
This is a very close call, since either will perform very well on your machine.
The 96, with its larger LED's and square face, is more visible and easier to read. Its buttons are larger
and easier to press. On the other hand, the SD3 still provides the dual LED display that most customers
prefer, but is less noticeable on your counter.
So - which controller? Look at the pictures! If you don't need steam control, make the selection based
on style and appearance. You will be very satisfied with either controller.
